Introduction

The official instructions for the Race Officers is the Burghfield Race Manual. This is a red folder that is kept at the club for all Race Officers to read.

You can also download the Race Office Manual as a PDF: Race Officer Manual

These guidelines are a summary to give you something to read before hand, and to help you with your planning and preparation for your Race Officer day. These instructions should also be a good guide to help the AROs and to prepare them for some of the tasks that will be needed.

These guidelines are intended to help with the Sunday lap-timed handicap racing. There are other pieces of information for Open Meetings, Bank Holiday pursuits and Wednesday evenings. But these instructions are focussed on the main Sunday racing.

Remember: If you make a mess of a normal Sundays racing, you will ruin your day. If you make a mess when you are Race Officer, you will ruin the day for 50 or 60 people! Although, with a little planning and thought, you can change a normal days sailing into a great day for 60 people!
