Topper course

Topper Course in the October Half Term Holiday

We will once again be running a two day Topper course in the October half-term holiday on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th October. This will be led by Ian Harrison a senior RYA instructor who has also been coaching the Toppers on Sundays and has run previous similar courses at the club.

The cost for the two days will be around £40 and we have five club Toppers that can hired for a small daily fee if you haven't got your own Topper yet.

Sailors will need to be RYA L2 or equivalent (e.g. IOCA G2, or our Oppie Club Group 2, or be able to sail a triangular course on all points of sail in a reasonable breeze - i.e. a F3 or so - and be confident righting a boat following a capsize).

It is hoped that sailors can be left at the club whilst parents go about their day-to-day activities, but for this to work we will also require some parental assistance through the days.

If you would like to know more and/or book on this course send an e-mail to . I need to confirm all bookings by Wednesday 21st October so that we can plan the course so please don't delay in replying.

Fingers crossed

Everything crossed for Junior & Youth Sailors

After a hectic weekend:

  • The Optimists were at Rutland for their End of Seasons - Josh Voller was highest placed Burghfield sailor finishing 14th overall. Full Results.

  • The 420s were at Datchet for their Inland Championships - Chris Taylor & James Parker-Mowbray led the Burghfield boats finishing 20th overall. followed by Issy Hamilton & Hannah Jones, Sophie Hamilton & Kat Colvin. Event Details & Full Results.

  • The Lasers 4.7s were at Stone for a squad selector/Ladder event - Results. Dan Bullock finished a very creditable 4th despite spending several weeks recovering from a back injury and now leads the Laser 4.7 ladder.

So with the season drawing to a close many of Burghfield's Junior and Youth sailors are now waiting anxiously for confirmation of National, Intermediate, Development, Transition and Zone squad places.

With sailors also competing in Topper, Feva and 29er classes 2009/2010 is set to be another fantastic year for Burghfield's younger members.

Announcements of junior/youth squad places to follow.

In the meantime - the best of luck to you all!!

As squad places are offered, if you drop me a note with the sailors name, boat class, & squad I will update the website on a rolling basis as we did for each fleet last year.
