Happy Tank

Fuel Tank

Exciting news! Our delivery of fuel has arrived and the new tank & pump are working brilliantly.

Special thanks must go to Peter Colvin, Wynn Kenrick and David Martin who have all spent a huge amount of time and effort on the discussions, negotiations, ordering, planning, installation and commissioning of the new tank.

OK demo boat at Burghfield

The first ever OK Demo boat has landed on on our shores. If you were at the club on Sunday (19th Feb) you would have seen it on the water GBR 2064 all grey boat.
Anyone is welcome to have a go in this wonderful one design, international single hander, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
The boat has spent the last 3 months being refurbished to a high standard, comes with a carbon mast, and all the gear.It is a fast boat, with a proven track record.
Burghfield member Nick Craig is 4 time OK world champion hoping to make that 5 in Barbados this year. So if you need any advice or encouragement speak to Nick.

To borrow the boat please contact one of the following:

Deryck Lovegrove (deryckgrovesnack@btinternet.com)
Tom Lee (tom_dm_lee@hotmail.co.uk)
Alan Atkin(alanandmarian@yahoo.co.uk)
Doug Powell (doug.powell@soprasteria.com)

There will be a nominal charge to use the boat to cover maintenance and insurance.

Jack Acton

Eight Bells ...

Jack Acton
Sadly, we have been informed that Jack Acton passed away on Wednesday the 8th February in Exeter, Devon, aged 86.

Jack was a lifetime honorary member of the club and served as Commodore back in the 1980s. He will be fondly remembered sailing his Merlin Rocket with his late son, James Acton. He was a leading member of the club for many years until he moved to Devon in 1984.

Our thoughts are with his daughter Jilly, his family and friends.

Island Fleet Challenge - Asymmetric Fleet Help Required

Island clearing continues this Saturday, 18 Feb - and it would be great if we could have as many asymmetric fleet sailors as possible lending a hand. I reckon the Blaze guys have done the lion’s share so far...but we all benefit from the clear air and better sight lines and it’d be nice if we could pull our weight. Any time you can spare would be much appreciated - so if you can make it down to the club on Saturday, please contact the club office.

Thanks - in anticipation! Mike Proven and Pete Haddrell, Fleet Captains.

Berkshire Sail Training

New Trustees Wanted

Berkshire Sail Training is a lively Centre focusing on youth development for able and disabled students through a range of activities, mostly water sports. The activities on offer can develop individuals from beginner, through our young leader awards, up to RYA instructor qualifications.

The board of Trustees are looking for new Trustees. We need people who are interested in youth development and who would be able to contribute skills to direct the Charity to succeed in its objectives.

If you would like to know more about the roles of a Trustee then please contact: Bernard Fyans (01189 427221) or Nina Derrick (01635 862553)

Island Fleets

Island Fleet Challenge - Updates

Many thanks to Mike Bell, Andy Maw, Peter Barlow and Sam Parkinson who spent all day Friday, in freezing conditions cutting back the vegetation on Blaze island.

Thanks also to Tony Chandler and Peter Ash who have done a sterling job finishing off Pylon Island over the last couple of weeks.

Tony Chandler is planning to make a start on the small, One-Tree island at the end of the runway (now allocated to general Working Parties/Sailability/Admiral's Club/Recreational sailing) on Tuesday 14th February. If anyone is available to help, please let the club office know. Any offers would be very much appreciated.

The North Wind Doth Blow....

With a few days of windy weather forecast (and February generally being a bit of a feisty month) please ensure your boats are tied down securely.

Additional Working Party Volunteers Needed - 17-19 February 2017

With the rapidly approaching nesting season and the Open Meeting season about to get underway we have arranged a Boat Maintenance Working Party for Friday 17th, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th February. The boat maintenance group (recover safety boats, clean, carry out minor repairs, service the engines & return to the water - all under the watchful eye of the Bosun) will run alongside the working party already tasked with working on the Islands on Saturday.

With so much to do some extra helping hands with both groups would be very much appreciated.

If you are already rostered, but would like to swap roles/dates, please use the swap request option in Dutyman.

If you are not currently rostered, but would be able to help, please sign up for one of the available slots on the Working Party roster or drop Sharon (manager@burghfieldsailing.org) an email with your preferred date/role and we'll update the roster for you.

Many hands make light work (and tidy islands, and clean boats)....
