Planning Declined

Berfeld Planning Application Declined

Following a long, drawn out planning application, developers Berfeld Ltd were informed on the 30th June that planning permission to build 24 Can-Float homes, along with 201 conventional houses, along the north and western edge of Theale Lake, has been declined.

They have now stated that they will be appealing the decision in the next few weeks and provided a piece in the Newbury News to support the application.

We continue to work with the developers to understand the time lines associated with the application and will keep you informed

Fun, fun, fun

Let the fun begin...

This weekend, 14 - 16 July is the annual Oppie Camp at the club and with 50+ sailors plus family members on site it'll be busy, loud, fun and just a little bit bonkers!

1:2 Race trial

Coming Soon - New 1:2 Race Format

We had the 2:1 series in June so now .... Over the following three Sundays: 3rd, 10th & 24th September we will be trialling the 1:2 series - a single race in the morning and 2 slightly shorter races back-to-back after lunch.

As with the 2:1 trial, this will be a mini-series which includes all the races over three Sundays rather than the traditional long morning and afternoon series.

We very much hope that you will come along, enjoy the racing with an open mind and give lots of feedback afterwards.

Races 7, 8 and 9 on Sunday 24th September will also be used to award prizes for the Fleet Trophy Day.

Pathway Training

Optimist Pathway Training

The next pathway training session at Burghfield will take place on Saturday 22nd July.

Pathway training is designed to support club junior sailors who want to progress through the RYA pathway route. RYA Pathway - More Details

Further sessions are planned for July and August for both Optimist and Feva Sailors.

Please contact Fiona Baddeley for more details.

The club's first optimist class event will be the optimist nationals where we plan to run a couple of Burghfield club socials in the evening.

Hansa Sailability Open Meeting 1 July 2017

Burghfield SC's annual Hansa Sailability Open Meeting was held on Saturday 1 July.

The weather forecast was benign with 10 knots blowing from the North West. The day started dull with the wind no where near what was forecast.

The race officers set a figure of 8 course which with the fading wind most competitors struggled to finish 2 laps inside an hour.

With the wind not looking to improve shorter simpler triangular courses were set for the rest of the event.

In the Liberty Class both Chris Emmett and David Durston finished on equal points with Chris winning on the last race decider.

In the 303 Double Handers Peter Etherton and Peta Etherton from Frensham Pond narrowly beat Tim Scarisbrick and Janet Whyte from Chesil SC.

In the 303 Single Handers Leslie Phillip from Tideway SC London produced the standout result of the regatta with 3 first places with a 2nd discarded.

In the 2.3 class Lindsay Burns from Frensham Pond also won with 3 first places
