News - January 2018

Hullabaloo

A bit of a Hullabaloo in the bar!

Apologies! Following many quiet weeks over the winter, the great sailing weather on Sunday, an unexpectedly high number of visitors and an ordering error caught us off guard in the bar at the weekend.

Normal, great, fully-stocked service will resume this week, and with it a very aptly named guest beer from Loddon - Hullabaloo!

We're planning to run other guest beers through the year - let us know if you have a favourite, local, craft beer you think other members might like and we'll take a look!

Members - Please Check Your Boats!

Over the last couple of weeks during the gusty weather we have had over 20 boats blown over or off their trolleys. Most have been lucky (as have their neighbours) but some have sustained significant damage.

Please ensure that your boats are TIED DOWN securely.

2018 Membership Renewals - Important Update

If you do not currently pay your membership fees by direct debit, please use the following link to sign up as a GoCardless customer.

www.burghfieldsailing.org/gocardless

If you have not already done so, please sign up to goCardless as soon as possible, to ensure a payment can be taken in January and to continue your membership.

UPDATE: If you have already signed up for goCardless, but have not yet received confirmation that the direct debit subscription has been set up - Sharon is working through the renewals as quickly as possible and you should receive your confirmation within the next few days. Your patience whilst we get all members set up with the new payment system is appreciated.

Membership Fee Payments Have Changed
With immediate effect, we will no longer be offering the annual subscription as a single payment but, we will be moving all members to a monthly payment payable by direct debit through goCardless.

We are doing this as it spreads the cost for you, makes changes mid-year easy to manage and it takes less time for us in chasing late payments.

GoCardless offers the club cheap, fast and secure payment processing. GoCardless accesses the direct debit network through its sponsor RBS and is registered with the FSA as a small Payments Institution. For further information please visit www.gocardless.com

If you do have any questions or queries please contact Sharon:

Two changes have been agreed by the Sailing Committee with effect from the start of the Frostbite series on 7th January 2018:

• Laser Standards will start with the slow handicap fleet rather than the fast handicap fleet.
• The 2000 class (formally, Laser 2000) should remain in the fast asymmetric fleet.

Oppie Race Training

Optimist Race Training 2017-18

As an addition to the Optimist calendar for winter 2017, we plan to run some Optimist Race Training sessions. These are aimed at any Burghfield Optimist sailor who would like to develop their racing skills towards Zone Squad standard and beyond.

They will be led by Ian Bullock with assistance from knowledgeable parents and hopefully, some guest appearances from others with relevant skills and experience. Ian has been involved with Burghfield Optimists, and the Optimist Class for many years and is currently one of IOCA's National Race Officers.

Dates are:

9th Dec
6th Jan
27th Jan
10th Feb
17th March

Start: 10:30 Briefing (rigged & changed)

There will be a nominal charge of £5 per sailor/per session payable in cash on the day.

Places will be limited to 12 initially, so please sign up as soon as possible.
