sun racing

Sunday Racing - 4 March is Go Go Go

The sun is trying to make an appearance at Burghfield Sailing Club so the thaw has started. We have a full race team confirmed so, should be all good at the club for sailing tomorrow! There’ll be a lot of surface water about, so if temperatures fall it could be icy - take care!

2018 Oppie Open

2018 Optimist Winter Open Meeting - CANCELLED

It is with some disappointment, but after much discussion and deliberation and with no sign of the forecast for Berkshire and the South improving over the next couple of days, that the Burghfield Optimist race committee have decided to cancel the Optimist Open Meeting which was due to take place on 3rd March 2018.

We can offer a couple of options for paid entries:
  • Transfer your entry to the Burghfield Summer Open & RYA Zone Qualifier on 8th September 2018 - this option is free of charge
  • Refund your entry by bank transfer - entry fee will be refunded minus a small admin fee of £1.50 per entry

  • Please contact to confirm your preferred option.

    Admiral's Club

Recreational Sailing Meeting - 6 March at 8pm

With the days becoming lighter for longer periods of time I am already planning some wonderful events at Burghfield. Eg. The Battle of Burghfield, Duck Hunt etc. These events have been such fun in the past for all the participants. Interesting enough they also help your boat handling in some very interesting situations while trying to catch Ducks or avoid Canon balls.

Kevin Druce would like to understand what you like to do for recreational sailing this year. With this in mind you are invited to the club to discuss recreational sailing on Tue 6th Mar at 8pm.

    Volunteer Needed

Urgent Request - Volunteer Needed 18 March 2018

Due to a change in work commitments/illness we have an urgent requirement for at least one ARO on Sunday 18 March 2018 for the Commodore's Cup. If you are available to help it would be very much appreciated. Please contact Thanks in advance!

    Commodores Cup

    Commodore's Cup Sunday - 18 March 2018 - CANCELLED

The Commodore’s Cup is a one-day event which traditionally runs on the Sunday in March between the Winter Frostbite and the Spring series.

As a handicap event it is a great chance for classes who don’t usually get to compete against one another to do battle. It is also an opportunity for some to get their boats back on the water after the winter as a shake down before the Spring Series.

    The format is as follows:
    3 races, 2 to count
    Single start for all classes
    Lap Timed handicap
    First Start 11:00

    Clocks forward

British Summer Time Begins - 25 March 2018

It's hard to believe but.... Summer begins on Sunday! Don't forget to put your clocks forward by one hour. Sunday is also the start of the Spring Series
