Dinner Dance, 2007- a report of the fantastic evening
A Great Night For All......
This year's dinner dance has widely been acclaimed as the best for many years. For the first time in a while the event was sold out (we apologise to those that we could not fit in- remember to book early next year!) The seventy-two guests were welcomed with a champagne reception from our new commodore, and then served a very well presented three-course meal by Antony and his team. The event went very smoothly and it was great to see so many people enjoying themselves on the dance floor.
The generosity of all the sponsors (listed below) enabled over £300 to be raised for Burghfield Sailablity, which, for those who are unaware, is a charity that provides sailing for the disabled. Andy Leigh very generously provided a ‘Pimp my boat’ voucher on behalf of Mayday chandlery and when former club member, Kevin Sweetman won the prize he did very well not to spill his drink- for Kevin and Ian Linder own a Flying Fifteen- quite a lot of boat there to bimble!!!
It was great to see such a diverse range of members enjoying themselves together and if anyone can help explain why Kim Linder and Janet Martin (see photo page using the link below) decided to have an arm wrestle late in the evening we would really like to know!
A big thank you must go to Pat and Andy Forbes, Caroline and Nick Martin and Adrian Dowle for their invaluable help in setting up and to all those who helped us put the clubroom back to relative normality at the end of the evening.
The low point of the evening was definitely the following morning, and the number of tentative sailors on the water on Sunday was distinctly noticeable and we know for sure that we could have easily taken first place from Graham and Zoe in the National Twelve’s had we just drunk a little less…!
Well every body can have dreams………….!
A last little note, we hope to see you all at the next major social event (yes George is already thinking about it!) - The Fitting Out supper –
Don’t forget the Burghfield Icicle-a lovely way to remove the calories from Christmas day- and a glass of muld Wine will be waiting for you when you come off the water!
Photo Album...
[Above all, a huge thank you to George Rowland and Jeremy Carey for the huge effort which made it all possible. - Ed.]
Thanks to our Sponsors |
